Yesterday a number of ETYM/TEECC members (myself included) made it out to a public consultation session, held by the Ontario Ministry of Education, to speak about the child care issues we are facing here in the Toronto East community. We heard from child care workers, parents and government representatives, and the message is clear: the Toronto East community needs more and better quality child care spaces.
I wanted to reach out to you all, the mothers and parents who will be the most deeply affected by upcoming Ontario child care policy decisions. We need to hear your voice. It is the compelling truth of your stories that can move the government to invest in our community. We’re on a mission to convince the government invest in the futures of our children by enabling access high quality, child care close to home, and we need your help.
One way in which you can provide your valuable feedback is by filling out the Ontario Government’s consultation feedback form online. Check it out by following this link: https://www.ontario.ca/morechildcare. This survey will help to inform the government about how they can “help improve access, parental choice and flexibility, affordability and quality.”
So how can you get involved? We are hosting a gathering in late January and would love for you to join us! It will be an opportunity for us to share our struggles with the child care system and gain insight into how we can ultimately convince the government to increase quality and number of child care spaces in our Toronto East community. There will be child care provided on site :) More information about this event will be provided in the new year.
